Peta Clancy is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Fine Art at Monash University. She holds a PhD from Monash, alongside an MFA and BFA from RMIT University. Her work focuses on contemporary photography, Indigenous perspectives, and environmental narratives, often collaborating with First Nations communities to explore colonial histories and cultural memory. Clancy’s research integrates performative practices with photography, emphasizing site-specific engagement with Country.
Key projects include Undercurrent (2019), which addressed underwater massacre sites on Dja Dja Wurrung Country, and Confluences (2023), funded by the Australia Council for the Arts. Awards include the 2012 Prix Ars Electronica Honorary Mention and multiple shortlistings for the Bowness Photography Prize. Her exhibitions span institutions like the Performance Space (Sydney), Brighton Museum (UK), and the Van Abbemuseum (Netherlands).
Clancy has led projects funded by ANAT Synapse, the Australia Council, and the Fostering Koorie Art and Culture Grant. Her activities include public lectures on colonial photography’s role in land narratives and curatorial collaborations emphasizing Indigenous representation.
