Pero Dagbovie serves as University Distinguished Professor in the Department of History at Michigan State University, concurrently holding the administrative roles of Vice Provost for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and Dean of the Graduate School.
Research Interests: His scholarship focuses on African American History, U.S. History, Intellectual History, and Philosophy of History. He has authored seven books and numerous articles, and previously served as editor of The Journal of African American History, the field's leading scholarly journal founded in 1916.
Editorial and Public History: Dagbovie contributes to academic discourse through editorial boards of The Michigan Historical Review, Modern American History, Journal of Black Studies, and Journal for the Study of Radicalism. He serves as scholar consultant for the Charles H. Wright Museum's "And Still We Rise" exhibit and currently leads restoration of the Carter G. Woodson Home National Historic Site.
Advising and Professional Development: He mentors undergraduate students through the Ronald E. McNair Program and Summer Research Opportunity Program, and has advised doctoral students now working in academia. His federally funded initiatives include history workshops for secondary teachers supported by the U.S. Department of Education, Michigan Department of Education, and National Endowment for the Humanities.
