Dr. Pernelle Lorette is an Academic Staff Member at the University of Mannheim, affiliated with the Department of English (Anglistik I) within the School of Humanities. Her primary research focuses on multilingualism, emotion perception, and cross-cultural communication, with particular attention to how language status (L1/LX), proficiency, and cultural background influence cognitive and emotional processing.
Her academic journey includes significant contributions to understanding emotion recognition across modalities, the role of emotional intelligence in moral judgments, and methodological innovations in multilingual research. She has published extensively in journals like Bilingualism: Language and Cognition, Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development, and Frontiers in Psychology.
Dr. Lorette’s work bridges linguistics, psychology, and education, addressing themes such as infant auditory perception development, bilingual conceptualization of motion events, and the impact of language dynamics on social decision-making. Her recent research emphasizes overcoming linguistic and cultural ‘knowledge gaps’ through collaborative methodologies.
Her consulting hours are Thursdays 11 AM–12 PM or by appointment, and she is reachable at p.lorette@uni-mannheim.de.
