معرفی
Peri Ballantyne is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at Trent University. She holds a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Western Ontario and a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. Her work bridges the sociology of health, social determinants of health, and qualitative research methodologies, with a focus on poverty, food security, and medicines access/use/outcomes.
Her research explores the long-term impacts of workplace injuries on health and employment, supported by internal grants like the SSHRC Explore grant and the Trent Centre on Aging and Society’s Research Capacity Enhancement Fund. She also investigates the evolving role of pharmacists in pharmaceutical public health, including deprescribing practices in long-term care settings.
Ballantyne’s work emphasizes qualitative methods, such as grounded theory and ethnography, to analyze health-related social dynamics. She supervises undergraduate and graduate students in research practicum and thesis projects, often integrating her community-based studies into academic training.
Key themes in her publications include neoliberalism, pharmaceutical policy, and global health inequities. Her edited collection, Living Pharmaceutical Lives, synthesizes interdisciplinary insights into medicine-taking practices.
Ballantyne coordinates Trent University’s Health Studies specialization, fostering critical engagement with health sociology. She serves as an International Advisor for the Prospective Outcomes of Injury Study 10 Years On (POIS-10) in New Zealand.
