Per Skålén is a Professor of Business Administration at Karlstad University, affiliated with the Service Research Center (CTF) and Karlstad University Business School. He specializes in service, marketing, consumer, and organization research, applying theories like practice theory, institutional theory, and critical theory. His work focuses on transformative service systems, value co-creation, and service innovation. He has been a project manager for multiple research initiatives and has supervised students at all academic levels.
Education: PhD in Business Administration (Karlstad University, 2002), full professor since 2010. Visiting researcher at HANKEN (2002-03) and Stanford University (2008).
Research interests include service ecosystems, marketing work, and applying social theory to marketing. He has published extensively in journals like Marketing Theory, Journal of Service Research, and Organization, and received the 2015 Best Paper Award for his work on transformative service systems in contentious environments.
He has held leadership roles including Associate Director of the Service Research Center (2017-2020), department chair, and membership on university administrative boards. His awards recognize contributions to service research and innovative methodologies.
Publications span service innovation, public service dynamics, and critical marketing discourse. His recent work explores service-as-practices frameworks and public service value co-creation/destruction.
