Per Ole Iversen is a Professor in the Division of Clinical Nutrition at the University of Oslo's Faculty of Medicine. He holds additional roles as Guest Professor at Stellenbosch University (South Africa) and Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (Tanzania). His research focuses on nutritional interventions, perinatal nutrition, and hematopoiesis, with a strong emphasis on global health challenges in sub-Saharan Africa and low-resource settings.
Academically qualified since 1990 (MD) and 1992 (PhD), Iversen has extensive clinical experience as a consultant in internal medicine and hematology (2003). He has received prestigious awards, including the Eminent Scientist of the Year (2021) and the Fridtjof Nansens Award (2003).
His research spans nutritional epidemiology, hematological disorders, and the impact of environmental factors (e.g., aflatoxins) on child development. He leads studies on maternal education interventions, food security policies, and the role of nutrition in stem cell transplantation outcomes. Current projects include the Child Nutrition and Development Study (CHNUDEV) and the Norwegian Food Study.
Iversen collaborates internationally, serves on the Marabou Foundation's Advisory Board, and publishes widely in journals like Clinical Nutrition, BMJ Global Health, and Public Health Nutrition. His work bridges clinical practice, public health policy, and global health equity.
