Ole Kristian Fauchald is a Professor and Head of Department at the Department of Public and International Law, University of Oslo. He holds a Ph.D. (dr. juris) from the University of Oslo for his thesis "Environmental Taxes and Trade Discrimination" (1998, Kluwer International). Previously, he served as an adviser to the Norwegian Ministry of Environment and conducted postdoctoral research at his alma mater.
His research focuses on national/international environmental law, WTO law, international investment law, and human rights law. He is affiliated with the Research Group on Internationalisation of Law and the Research Group on Natural Resources Law, and contributes to the Centre of Excellence project "The Legitimate Roles of the Judiciary in the Global Order".
Teaching responsibilities include courses on public international law, environmental law, constitutional law, and administrative law. He has held a visiting research position at Peking University (2006–2007) and serves as a part-time researcher at the Fridtjof Nansen Institute since 2009.
His work bridges legal frameworks addressing global environmental governance, trade policies, and investment disputes, with a focus on sustainable development and cross-border regulatory challenges.
