Per Kristian Aschim

Per Kristian Aschim holds the position of Adjunct Associate Professor in Norwegian Church History at MF University College of Theology, Religion and Society. He is also currently serving as Fagsjef (Subject Head) at Presteforeningen (Priest Association) since 2018. His professional background includes roles such as Senior Advisor at the Priest Association's Education Department (2012–2017), Secretary of the 'Strengthened Democracy in the Norwegian Church' investigation (2008), and Book Review Editor for Luthersk kirketidende (1998–1999).

Aschim's research focuses on Norwegian church history, hymnology, church law, and the intersection of church and state. He has authored works analyzing 19th-century religious policy, the historical use of hymns, and denominational identity formation. His 2022 monograph Herskende religion i den kristelige stat examines state-religion ideologies in 1840s Norway. Recent studies include investigations into Sami representation in church historiography and multilingual liturgical practices.

His publications reflect interdisciplinary engagement with theological, historical, and legal questions. Notable contributions include analyses of M.B. Landstad's hymnological work and the reception history of Norway's first official hymnal.
