Mark DeGarmeaux is a Professor in the Religion Department at Bethany Lutheran College, where he teaches courses in Hebrew, religion, organ, music theory, and hymnody. He serves the campus as chapel organist and choir accompanist, integrating music and faith in both academic and liturgical settings.

The most recent articles and publications reflect a strong focus on biblical exegesis (especially Psalms and Isaiah), Lutheran liturgy, hymnody, and historical theology. His work often bridges music and scripture, exploring how harmony reflects the Trinity and how hymns express resurrection hope. He has contributed to major projects like the Lutheran Service Book: Companion to the Hymns and translations of historical Lutheran texts.

Mark DeGarmeaux has served as a pastor (1985–1995) in northeast Iowa and continues to serve part-time as a church organist (1995–present). He has delivered workshops for amateur church organists and presented on U.V. Koren and Katie Luther. As a translator, he has worked extensively with Norwegian, Danish, German, and Latin texts, contributing significantly to the preservation and dissemination of Lutheran heritage materials.
He has previously served on the boards of Sons of Norway and the Minnesota Valley Chorale, demonstrating community engagement beyond the classroom.
