Per Ejstrud is a researcher affiliated with Aalborg University Hospital, under The Faculty of Medicine, Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery. He has been actively contributing to clinical gastroenterology and endoscopic research since at least 1997 and continues to publish into 2025, demonstrating sustained academic and clinical engagement.
His research interests center around gastrointestinal endoscopy, particularly in the diagnosis and management of conditions such as Barrett’s esophagus, eosinophilic esophagitis, difficult biliary cannulation, acute and chronic pancreatitis, and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided interventions. He has played a key role in developing and evaluating endoscopic techniques, including transpancreatic biliary sphincterotomy and EUS-guided pericardiocentesis.
The trends in his recent publications indicate a strong focus on randomized controlled trials, registry-based studies, and innovative endoscopic procedures. His work spans diagnostic protocols, interventional endoscopy, and clinical outcomes, often in collaboration with Scandinavian and international research groups.
Per Ejstrud has participated in multiple conferences as both a lecturer and participant, including the United European Gastroenterology Week and Euro EUS. His research has been covered in clinical guidelines and press media, including features on cancer prevention in the esophagus and endoscopic training excellence.
He has contributed to significant datasets, such as one on the quality of endoscopic surveillance for Barrett’s esophagus, and has co-authored 27 research outputs, including journal articles, case reports, and conference abstracts. His work is frequently published in high-impact gastroenterology journals like Endoscopy and Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology.
