Pepijn Brandon is a Full Professor of Global Economic and Social History at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Senior Researcher at the International Institute of Social History (IISH). His research focuses on the history of capitalism, war, economic development, and slavery, with a particular emphasis on the Dutch Empire and its global connections. He holds a PhD (cum laude) from the University of Amsterdam and has led major projects such as the City of Amsterdam's study on its historical role in slavery and the NWO Vidi project on land dispossession in the Dutch Empire.

Publications: Over 120 articles and books, including works on Dutch fiscal-military states, slavery's economic impact, and global labor history. Recent projects include studies on ABN AMRO's slavery ties and land dispossession in Dutch colonies.
