Dr. Penelope Muzanenhamo is an Assistant Professor in Marketing and Society at University College Dublin's Quinn School of Business. Her interdisciplinary role combines Marketing scholarship with societal concerns and Critical Management Perspectives. She serves as Africa Lead within the Centre for Business and Society (CeBaS) and Executive Co-Director for the 'People, Work, Society' theme at the UCD Earth Institute. Her research focuses on epistemic justice, Black scholarship, and sustainable development, with notable awards including the 2023 Human Relations Paper of the Year and multiple Best Paper recognitions.
Education and Career Path: Penelope joined UCD in 2015 as the Proudly Made in Africa Fellow, working to integrate African perspectives into Business curricula. Prior roles include international project management and marketing consultancy with firms like Redbull and Siemens, as well as teaching at the Prague Summer Schools. She holds a Professional Certificate in Creativity & Innovation for Education from UCD.
Research Interests: Her work critiques systemic racism in academia, advocates for inclusive knowledge systems, and explores Brand Africa's role in economic development. She has published extensively on topics such as noncooperative spaces, epistemic injustice, and vulnerable market actors.
Professional Activities: She is Media and Artefacts Review Editor for Organization, Co-Chair of the Academy of Management’s Critical Management Studies Division, and a Fellow at the Scaling Business in Africa Initiative (Edinburgh). Her grants include funding for projects on religion market resilience and sustainable development.
Awards: Besides academic accolades, Penelope has received recognition for teaching excellence and contributions to diversity initiatives. Her work bridges critical theory with actionable solutions for equitable global systems.
