Pejman Rohani serves as Regents' Professor and UGA Athletic Association Professor in Ecology and Infectious Diseases at the University of Georgia. He holds dual appointments in the Odum School of Ecology and the Department of Infectious Diseases within the College of Veterinary Medicine. Rohani currently serves as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Deputy Director of the Center for Influenza Disease & Emergence Research, a NIAID-funded Center of Excellence in Influenza Research & Response.
His research focuses on population biology of host-pathogen interactions, employing mathematical modeling, data analysis, and statistical inference to understand infectious disease ecology and evolution. Key research areas include childhood infections, emerging infectious diseases, pertussis epidemiology, influenza dynamics, and pandemic preparedness. Rohani's work particularly examines how vaccination programs impact disease resurgence and pathogen evolution, with significant contributions to understanding pertussis resurgence and SARS-CoV-2 transmission dynamics.
Rohani's publication record demonstrates consistent high-impact contributions, with recent work spanning antigenic mapping algorithms, pertussis asymptomatic carriage states, and influenza seasonality anomalies. His research has direct implications for public health policy and vaccine development strategies.
- Fellow of the Ecological Society of America
- Deputy Director of NIAID's Center of Excellence in Influenza Research & Response
- Recipient of UGA Athletic Association Professorship
Rohani actively mentors postdoctoral researchers, with recent recognition including Toby Brett receiving UGA's Postdoctoral Research Award. His laboratory maintains strong collaborative networks across infectious disease modeling, including participation in the Models of Infectious Disease Agent Study (MIDAS) initiative. The Rohani lab operates within the Center for the Ecology of Infectious Diseases, contributing to UGA's leadership in infectious disease research.
