Demba Sarr is an Associate Research Scientist in the Rada Lab at the University of Georgia’s Department of Infectious Diseases, part of the College of Veterinary Medicine. His research focuses on innate immunity and immunopathogenesis of malaria and influenza using mouse models, as well as cystic fibrosis pathogenesis. He holds a PhD from the Institut Pasteur of Dakar and Cheikh Anta Diop University, with extensive field experience in schistosomiasis epidemiology in Senegal and Mauritania. His work bridges basic biology, clinical research, and translational medicine.
Education:
- Bachelor’s in Biology (university unspecified)
- PhD in Infectious Diseases from Institut Pasteur of Dakar and Cheikh Anta Diop University
Research Interests:
- Innate immunity mechanisms in malaria and influenza
- Cystic fibrosis neutrophil biology
- Animal models for human infectious diseases
His recent studies explore dual oxidase (DUOX) systems in antiviral immunity and Mycobacterium tuberculosis pathogenesis. Collaborations include work on influenza treatment combinations and Bordetella pertussis vaccine limitations.
