Peg McCormick is a Professor of Special Education at Bethel University, holding dual affiliations in the College of Arts and Sciences (Education department) and the College of Adult and Professional Studies. She specializes in Special Education, with a focus on Behavioral Theory, teacher resilience, and Hope Theory applications. Her roles include teaching courses like SPED 613 and EDUC 624, and she co-founded Camp Hope, a retreat program supporting educators’ emotional and spiritual well-being.
Dr. McCormick earned a B.A. in Liberal Arts (Metropolitan State University, 1994), an M.A. in Special Education (University of Minnesota, 1996), and a Ph.D. (University of Minnesota, 2009). Her research addresses teacher occupational longevity, mental health, and interventions for students with emotional/behavioral disabilities (EBD).
Her work integrates neuroscience and behavioral principles to shape classroom practices. Recent research trends emphasize Hope Theory’s role in educator retention, trauma-informed teaching, and global intercultural education initiatives. She actively presents at conferences and collaborates on projects like Bethel’s Research Showcase.
Mrs. McCormick chairs the Promotion and Tenure Committee and co-chairs the Inclusive Excellence Committee. Beyond academia, she advocates for immigrant students, leads worship at Sojourn Campus Church, and engages in community gardening and family activities.
