Pedro Nunes is a Research Fellow at Diamond Light Source, joining in December 2022 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate on the HeXI project within the Macromolecular Crystallography group. His work focuses on developing high-energy electron diffraction instrumentation and time-resolved methodologies for molecular dynamics studies.
He holds a Master's in Chemistry (MChem) from the University of Manchester (2014) and a PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of York (2018). His doctoral research established a roadmap for molecular movie recording using gas-phase, time-resolved, and ultrafast electron diffraction techniques.
Nunes specializes in ultrafast electron diffraction for photoinduced molecular dynamics, particularly in liquid-phase systems. His pioneering work at SLAC National Laboratory included designing the first instrument capable of imaging photochemical reactions in liquids. Current research emphasizes instrument development for the HeXI project and advancing liquid-sheet technologies for sample delivery.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications (2019-2023) reveals consistent innovation in ultrafast diffraction methodologies, with dominant themes in liquid-phase reaction imaging, conformer-specific dynamics, and instrumentation breakthroughs.
