Pearson Nkhoma is a Senior Lecturer & Interim Head of Department in the Department of Social, Therapeutic and Community Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London. His research focuses on child exploitation, modern slavery, gender, and health inequalities, with a particular emphasis on sub-Saharan Africa. He has contributed to global health initiatives such as the World Health Organization’s malaria vaccine program and led studies on vaccination motivations in Black communities.
Education: PhD in Applied Social Science (2017), MA in Social Work Studies (2013), BA in Media for Development (2009).
His work integrates participatory action research with marginalized communities, addressing issues like child trafficking, LGBTQ+ rights, and microfinance’s impact on women. He co-edited the 2025 volume Critical Research and Creative Practice with Migrant and Refugee Communities and collaborates with UN agencies, NHS, and NGOs.
Recent research highlights include investigations into anti-vaxxer perceptions in Black communities (2023) and the colonial roots of anti-LGBTQ+ laws in Malawi (2025). His interdisciplinary approach combines social justice advocacy with policy-relevant insights.
