Dr. Paz Tayal is a Clinical Associate Professor at the National Heart & Lung Institute, part of Imperial College London's Faculty of Medicine. She is also a Consultant Cardiologist specializing in cardiomyopathy and cardiac imaging, based at the Cardiovascular Research Centre on the Royal Brompton Campus. Her research focuses on genetic and phenotypic evaluation of cardiomyopathies, sex-specific differences in these conditions, and digital health applications using machine learning. She holds leadership roles in the Royal Society of Medicine's Cardiology Council, the Royal Society's Diversity Committee, and the British Cardiovascular Society's Clinical Standards Committee.
Education: BA (Merit) from the University of Oxford, followed by Academic Foundation training under Professors Stefan Neubauer and Hugh Watkins. She completed a PhD at Imperial College London under Professors Sanjay Prasad and Stuart Cook, awarded the National Heart Lung Institute Best Thesis Prize (2018). In 2019, she undertook a visiting fellowship at Stanford University with Prof. Euan Ashley, exploring digital health and machine learning.
Research contributions include publications in JACC and Circulation, and grants such as the MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowship (2014) and MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship (2022). Notable awards include dual American College of Cardiology Young Investigator Awards (2017, 2021) and a L'Oreal UNESCO Women in Science nomination (2021).
