Payal P. Shah serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Leadership, Learning Design, and Inquiry at the University of South Carolina's College of Education, specializing in international and comparative education, qualitative inquiry, and social foundations of education.

Dr. Shah's research centers on girls’ education, international development policy, and qualitative methodologies with regional expertise in South Asia. Current projects explore gender, empowerment, and educational equity through rigorous fieldwork. She actively contributes to methodological discourse in education research while maintaining strong geographical focus on South Asian contexts.
Her scholarly work has secured competitive funding from the Fulbright Program and Spencer Foundation.
