Paweł Hałakuc is a researcher affiliated with the Faculty of Biology at the University of Warsaw. His work focuses on mitochondrial genomics, euglenid evolution, and protist biology. He leads research projects funded by grants such as the NCN Preludium grant and the IDUB UW Mikrogrant, investigating mitochondrial genome structure and rRNA gene organization in Euglenids. He is a member of the International Society of Protistologists and has received the Holz-Conner Travel Grant for conference participation.
His research interests include mitochondrial evolution, genomic architecture in eukaryotes, and the application of bioinformatics to study protist diversity. He has contributed to studies on transposon-derived introns, extrachromosomal DNA dynamics in Euglena gracilis, and the genomic basis of mitochondrial loss in Preaxostyla flagellates. His work bridges molecular biology, evolutionary genomics, and environmental microbiology.
Hałakuc has presented his research at conferences including the International Society of Protistologists meetings and the EMBO Young Scientists Forum. He previously interned at the Institute of Parasitology CAS under Dr. Martin Kolísko. His interdisciplinary approach combines lab-based genomics with computational analysis to address fundamental questions in eukaryotic evolution.
