Valentina Smacchia is a Researcher at the University of Warsaw, focusing on microbial ecology and evolutionary biology. Her work examines eutrophication impacts on freshwater ecosystems and interspecies interactions between protists and prokaryotes. She collaborates on projects like the MicroDivEr initiative (led by Prof. Anna Karnkowska) and contributed to developing single-cell transcriptomics protocols for microbial eukaryotes.
Her research has been supported by the IDUB microgrant (2022) and Holz-Conner Travel Grant (2023). She presented findings at the EMBO Young Investigator Network meeting (2022) and is a member of the International Society of Protistologists (ISOP).
