Prof. Dr. Pauline Nobes is a Baroque violin specialist and spokesperson for the Historical Instruments Section at the University of Music Würzburg. She is renowned for her work with leading period instrument ensembles such as The English Baroque Soloists, The Academy of Ancient Music (concertmaster since 1999), and Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique. Her career spans performances in major concert halls across Europe, the USA, and Japan, with over 100 CD recordings, including collaborations with Musica Antiqua Köln and Das Neue Orchester.
She teaches baroque violin and historical performance practice at the University of Music Würzburg and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where she has conducted the Baroque Orchestra since 2005. Her research focuses on pre-1750 unaccompanied violin repertoire and string technique, documented in a solo CD and self-published editions. Nobes also mentors at international summer courses, including the Neuburg Summer Academy.
Her teaching and performance roles are complemented by engagements as a coach for historical performance practice with orchestras like the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra and Aachen Theater Orchestra. She previously earned an ARCM diploma in trumpet at 17 and recorded Beethoven's Leonore with Sir John Eliot Gardiner.
