Pauline Kamermans

Dr. Pauline Kamermans is a Senior Researcher in Marine Ecology and Aquaculture at Wageningen Marine Research, part of Wageningen University & Research. With over 30 years of experience, her work focuses on shellfish aquaculture, restoration, and sustainable marine practices. She has led projects funded by the EU, governments, and industry, including initiatives to restore flat oyster beds and explore offshore aquaculture in wind farms. Kamermans chairs key ICES working groups and collaborates with stakeholders like shellfish farmers and wind developers.

Research Expertise: Her expertise spans aquatic ecology, aquaculture, marine ecology, and algae culture. She pioneers techniques in spat fall prediction, hatchery development, and ecophysiological studies of shellfish. Current projects include ULTFARMS (circular aquaculture in offshore environments) and ReVIFES (reef vitalization).

Grants & Collaborations: Her work is supported by diverse funders, including national governments and private-sector partners. She advises on sustainability strategies for marine ecosystems and integrates ecological research with industrial applications.

Labs & Teams: Based at Regiocentrum Yerseke, she leads multidisciplinary teams addressing challenges in marine biodiversity and climate-resilient aquaculture. Her research supports both ecological restoration and commercial shellfish production.
