Paula Witkowski-Dieckmann

Paula Witkowski-Dieckmann is a Professor in the Department of Teacher Education within the School of Education at Webster University, St. Louis. She serves as Director of the MA in Reading and Certificate in Dyslexia programs and advises students in the MA program for elementary teacher certification.

Her research focuses on three main areas: (1) implementing content area literacy for struggling adolescent readers in high schools, (2) assessment and intervention for dyslexia, and (3) motivation and engagement in adolescent and adult learners. She has presented workshops for local schools and at regional and international conferences on these topics.

Her primary scholarly contribution is the co-authored textbook 'Content Area Reading: A Practical Guide', which provides practical reading strategies for academic disciplines. This work bridges educational theory and classroom practice in literacy education, with emphasis on adolescent learners and dyslexia intervention.

Dr. Witkowski advises MA students seeking teacher certification and has extensive experience as a former Speech-Language Pathologist in public and private settings. She was featured in St. Louis Public Radio's 2019 segment 'Inside The Dyslexic Mind' discussing dyslexia awareness.
