Dr. Mary Ann Poparad is an Associate Professor at the National College of Education and Director of the Reading Recovery® and Descubriendo la Lectura Center for Literacy at National Louis University. She specializes in literacy education, school improvement strategies, and evidence-based interventions for struggling readers. Her work focuses on leadership development for educators through post-graduate training programs.
Education: Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Nebraska; post-doctoral certifications in Reading Recovery training, Partnerships in Comprehensive Literacy, and educational administration. She holds state certifications as a K-12 Reading Specialist, Secondary English Teacher, and School Principal.
Research interests include effective literacy interventions for diverse learners, MTSS frameworks, instructional coaching, and leveraging literacy for systemic school improvement. She has led国家级 grants like the i3 Scaling Up What Works initiative and published extensively on literacy leadership and program evaluation.
Grants include a $ multimillion U.S. Department of Education i3 grant (2010-2015) and federal validation research on Descubriendo La Lectura. Her work emphasizes data-driven program refinement and annual research publications through the RR/DLL Center.
Labs/Teams: Oversees the Reading Recovery Center's research and training programs, collaborating with districts across Illinois and Wisconsin to implement literacy frameworks and coach educators in best practices.
