Dr. Paula Marantz Cohen is Distinguished Professor of English and Dean Emerita of Pennoni Honors College at Drexel University. She holds a BA in English and French from Yale University and PhD in English Literature from Columbia University.
Her scholarship focuses on Shakespeare's exploration of empathy, 19th-20th century Anglo-American literature, and the civilizing power of conversation. She authored significant works including 'Of Human Kindness: What Shakespeare Teaches Us About Empathy' and 'Talking Cure: An Essay on the Civilizing Power of Conversation'. Her documentary 'Two Universities and the Future of China' examines educational exchange programs.
Her 2014 Wall Street Journal article chronicles a year-long experiment with Harvard's 'Five-Foot Shelf' of classics, analyzing its impact on liberal education. She received the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching and hosts 'The Civil Discourse' interview series on PBS affiliates.
