Dr. Paula Keller is a Research Fellow at the Ethics Institute of Utrecht University in the Netherlands, specializing in epistemology, political philosophy, and philosophy of language. Previously, she held a Research Fellowship at Jesus College, Cambridge, where she examined what utopian thinking reveals about social status quo. Her work focuses on how individuals mentally represent the social world, particularly exploring ideological misrepresentations that support unjust social structures while investigating pathways to epistemic emancipation.
Her educational background includes a BA and MPhil from the University of Cambridge, where she also completed her PhD thesis titled 'Epistemic Emancipation: Essays on Learning about Injustice,' examining how individuals embedded in oppressive structures can gain knowledge about those very structures.
Keller's research spans feminist epistemology, radical political thought, and the philosophical implications of social critique. She has published extensively on objectification, testimony, metaphor, and utopian thinking, with recent work analyzing Rahel Levin Varnhagen's contributions to 19th-century women philosophers in the German tradition. Her publications demonstrate consistent engagement with how language structures shape our understanding of social reality and power dynamics.
Her scholarly contributions include significant articles in Ethics, Erkenntnis, and the Journal of Ethics and Social Philosophy, showing a progression from analyses of specific philosophical concepts toward broader investigations of social structures and emancipatory possibilities. Her work bridges analytic philosophy with critical social theory, making substantial contributions to contemporary debates in political epistemology.
