Dr. Paul Worley is a Professor of Spanish and Chair of the Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures at Appalachian State University. He holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill. His research focuses on Indigenous literatures, particularly Maya, Latin American, and global Indigenous textual practices. Notable works include Unwriting Maya Literature: Ts’íib as Recorded Knowledge (2019) and co-translations of Miguel Rocha Vivas’s Word Mingas (2021). He is a Fulbright Scholar and received LASA’s Mexico Section Honorable Mention for Best Book in the Humanities. His scholarship engages decolonial methodologies, translation as communal labor, and oral traditions. Current projects include studies of Maya storytelling and trans-Indigenous literary networks.
