Nathan Henne is the Chair of the Department of Languages and Cultures and Director of Latin American Studies at Loyola University New Orleans. His research and teaching focus on Indigenous cultural traditions in the Americas, particularly Maya literature and philosophy, along with Central American cultural studies, linguistics, and decolonial methodologies.
- Education: Ph.D. (2007) from University of California Santa Barbara, M.A. (2001) from San Diego State University, B.A. (1991) from University of Texas.
His work emphasizes decolonial approaches to Indigenous texts, including the Maya Popol Wuj, and explores themes like migration, revolution, and Indigenous philosophies. Recent publications include Reading Popol Wuj: A Decolonial Guide (2020) and the first Maya novel translation El tiempo principia en Xibalbá (2012). He also leads Loyola's LAS/Ibero (Puebla) partnership, facilitating internships in NGOs across Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Sierra Norte de Puebla.
