Paul W. Speer is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Human and Organizational Development at Peabody College, Vanderbilt University, specializing in community psychology and organizational development.
Education:

Research Interests: Speer investigates how community organizing contexts foster sustained civic engagement through social network properties, and how participation translates into social power for systemic community change. His work examines psychological and behavioral impacts of power-exercising groups on individuals, conceptualizations of social power, and associated social change mechanisms. Current projects include CDC-funded youth violence prevention focused on youth-led consciousness raising regarding systemic racism, California-based relationship-building initiatives across racial boundaries, and RWJF-supported analysis of health equity and community power dynamics.
