Dr. Paul Sotiriou is an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Postdoctoral Research Fellow affiliated with the Chair of Endogenous Geodynamics at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). His research focuses on igneous petrology, geochemistry, and geodynamic processes, particularly in understanding Archean Earth evolution and modern analogues.
- Education:
- BSc in Geology, Kingston University, UK
- MSc in Geology, University of Exeter, UK
- PhD in Geology, University of Windsor, Canada
His scientific work integrates field studies with advanced analytical techniques (e.g., SEM, EMPA, U-Pb geochronology, Sm-Nd isotopes) to investigate magmatic systems across Archean to Cenozoic eras. Recent publications emphasize Archean TTG batholiths, subduction zone analogues in island arcs, and crustal evolution mechanisms.
Current research, funded by a BMBF/DFG grant, extends his Humboldt Fellowship work, comparing Proterozoic and Cenozoic magmatic systems to decipher ancient plate tectonics.
- Scientific Awards:
- Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellowship
He has received grants from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (2021–2023) and ongoing support from BMBF/DFG for his current projects on arc dynamics.
