Paul Savage is a Senior Lecturer in Earth Sciences at the School of Earth & Environmental Sciences, University of St Andrews. He is affiliated with the St Andrews Centre for Exoplanet Science and St Andrews Isotope Geochemistry. His research focuses on isotope geochemistry, particularly silicon and copper isotopes, and their applications to understanding planetary formation, magmatic differentiation, and crustal evolution.
His recent publications highlight the role of silicon isotopes in reconstructing early Earth weathering processes, the behavior of rhenium and copper isotopes during magmatic events, and the isotopic signatures of Archaean and Eoarchean melts. These works intersect with UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing Earth system science and planetary history.
- Research Areas: Isotope Fractionation, Magmatic Differentiation, Silicon Isotopes, Continental Crust, Early Earth, Trace Element Geochemistry
- Scientific Collaborations: Projects with NERC and Carnegie Trust funding, including studies on biomass burial trends and laser ablation facilities (LA:TRACE).
- Supervised Work: Mentorship of thesis datasets related to silicon isotopes and nitrogen cycling in the Earth’s crust.
