Paul O. Gubbins

Paul O. Gubbins is Associate Dean for the UMKC School of Pharmacy at Missouri State University and Vice Chair/Professor in the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Administration. With over 21 years at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), he served as Department Chair and Director of Clinical Research before joining UMKC in 2014.

Education: Doctor of Pharmacy from University of Illinois at Chicago; completed clinical pharmacy residency at University of Kentucky and fellowship in infectious diseases pharmacotherapy at UIC.

Research expertise spans antifungal pharmacology, pharmacokinetics of antimicrobial agents, point-of-care testing for infectious diseases, mobile health technology applications, and scholarship of teaching and learning in pharmacy education. His work has attracted extramural funding and includes directing fellowship training programs.

Publications include nearly 70 peer-reviewed articles and 21 book chapters covering antifungal drug interactions, pharmacy education innovation, medication adherence technologies, and public health interventions. Recent work focuses on pandemic response roles for pharmacists and point-of-care testing implementation.
