معرفی
Dr Paul Murray is a Principal Research Fellow (part-time) in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton. He is affiliated with the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) and the Rolls Royce University Technology Centre in Gas Turbine Noise.
- Alumni of Queen’s University Belfast (BSc in Physics & Applied Mathematics, 1985)
- PhD in Atomic Physics from Queen’s University Belfast (1989)
- Chartered Physicist and member of the Institute of Acoustics
- Acoustic consultant for Morrisbrand Ltd
His research focuses on Aeroacoustics, particularly Acoustic Liner Optimization and Engine Noise Source Generation/Propagation. He works on advanced liner technologies for aero-engine noise reduction, including slanted septum and folded cavity designs.
Recent publications highlight his work on optimizing acoustic liners for broadband noise absorption and experimental validation of liner performance under high-pressure and grazing flow conditions. His research spans theoretical modeling, computational analysis, and physical testing.
Paul supervises PhD students like Suresh Palani in aeroacoustic projects and contributes to interdisciplinary studies such as the ASyMSmeso system for medical symptom management. His career bridges academic research and 20+ years of aerospace industry experience at BAe Systems, Bombardier Shorts, Boeing, and Alenia Aermacchi.
- Member of the Acoustics Group
- Collaborator in the H2020 ARTEM project
