Paul Mcallister

Paul Mcallister is the Course Leader for the BA (Hons) Glass and Ceramics program at the University of Wolverhampton, within the School of Creative Industries, Faculty of Arts, Business and Social Sciences. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, reflecting his commitment to excellence in teaching and academic practice.

His educational background includes an MA in Ceramics and a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education. He trained at Bournville College of Art, Derby University, and the University of Wales, Cardiff, and completed his teacher training at Nottingham Trent University.

Paul's research and artistic practice centers on ceramics, with a particular focus on 3D printed ceramics through the collaborative project Ceramic Commons. His work explores material innovation, glaze chemistry, and the intersection of traditional ceramic techniques with digital fabrication. He has exhibited widely in the UK, USA, and Australia.

His recent publications in journals such as Ceramics Monthly and Studio Potter Magazine reflect his deep engagement with contemporary ceramic discourse, including themes of material unpredictability, artistic process, and critical review of ceramic artists.

Paul has extensive experience in academic leadership and quality assurance, serving as Link Tutor for the Foundation Degree in Art and Design at South and City College, Birmingham, and as External Examiner for the BA (Hons) Ceramics at Gulf College, Oman. He has taught across further and higher education, adult education, and community settings, and has held part-time teaching roles at Coventry University.

He has completed international residencies at ArtworksMK (Milton Keynes), Guldagergaard (Denmark), and Emmanuel College (Boston, USA), and has contributed to kiln construction projects, including a Japanese Anagama and a gas-fired soda kiln.
