Kathy Maves

Kathy Maves serves as an Associate Lecturer in the Art & Design Department within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Since 2022, she has taught ceramics, 3D foundations, sculpture, and visual art courses while maintaining over 25 years of professional practice as a ceramic artist.

Her educational background includes:

• Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in Ceramics from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (2015)
• Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in English Literature with a minor in Art from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (2007)

Ms. Maves' artistic practice integrates traditional analog pottery techniques with digital imagery, rooted in the upper Midwest's "Mingeisota" style. Her work features brushwork and subtractive slip techniques combined with underglaze and glaze layers on stoneware and porcelain, informed by expertise in production pottery, wood-fired kiln construction, and experimental ceramics research. She maintains an active studio in rural Northwestern Wisconsin and distributes her work through her Etsy shop (kathymavesceramics.etsy.com) and physical galleries including Bell Street Gallery on Madeline Island and Riverwood Art & Frame in Eau Claire.
