Madeline Kaczmarczyk serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Ceramics at Aquinas College's Art & Music Center, a position she has held since joining the faculty in 1999. She brings extensive professional experience as a potter to her academic role, enriching her pedagogical approach with hands-on expertise in ceramic arts.
Her educational background includes:
- Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Aquinas College
- Advanced studies in clay at Pewabic Pottery, Detroit
Kaczmarczyk's artistic research centers on the fusion of traditional ceramic techniques with contemporary identity expression. Drawing from her Polish Catholic upbringing in Detroit's east side, she explores cross-cultural influences including Japanese brushwork, English stoneware, French Sevres luster glazing, and Zuni beadwork. Her practice emphasizes the meditative intensity of complex ceramic creation, moving beyond imitation to develop a personal visual language through pattern and color integration.
Her work has been exhibited at prestigious venues such as the Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery and the American Craft Museum in New York City. Recent projects include ceramic tile installations at St. Joseph the Worker and Holy Name of Jesus parishes in Grand Rapids, with pieces held in private collections and national museums. She actively contributes to the ceramic community through workshops at Midwest colleges and specialized ceramic centers.
