Mgr Paul McPartlan is the Rector of Mater Ecclesiae College and Professor of Theology at St Mary's University. He holds a unique dual role overseeing an autonomous ecclesiastical institution while maintaining academic ties to the university system. His career spans over four decades, including key appointments such as the Carl J. Peter Professor of Systematic Theology and Ecumenism at The Catholic University of America (2006–2023) and acting dean of its School of Theology and Religious Studies.

His recent work explores themes like ecological spirituality linked to Eucharistic theology and theological dialogue between Catholic, Orthodox, and Anglican traditions.
Professional service includes roles on the International Theological Commission (2004–2014), Catholic-Methodist dialogue (2002–2012), and the Joint International Commission for Catholic-Orthodox Theological Dialogue since 2005.
