Paul McDonald is a Professor of Animal Behaviour at UNE's School of Environmental and Rural Science. His research examines vocal communication in birds, passive acoustic biodiversity monitoring, and ecological consequences of social behavior. His work is supported by the Australian Research Council and addresses conservation challenges like noisy miner management.
Research focuses on bioacoustics applications for ecological monitoring, animal welfare assessment, and understanding social dynamics in complex animal societies. Recent publications demonstrate innovative approaches to wildlife management and conservation technology development.
Teaching includes Animal Behaviour (ZOOL326/526), Life on Earth (ZOOL100), and field-based Namibian Zoology courses. His research group collaborates with government agencies including the Department of Planning and Environment.
