معرفی
Marco Gamba is Associate Professor of Zoology in the Department of Life Sciences and Systems Biology at the University of Torino, Italy. He directs the Master’s degree course “Evolution of Animal and Human Behaviour,” teaches undergraduate and doctoral courses in ethology, zoology and data analysis, and is co-author of the widely-used open-source software BORIS.
Education:
- PhD in Evolutionary Biology and Conservation of Biodiversity, University of Torino (2005)
- Post-graduate Master degree in Computer Science (after biology graduation)
- Marie Curie Fellowship, Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Sussex (2004)
Research interests centre on animal bioacoustics and primate vocal communication. Marco combines field recordings—from lemurs in Madagascar to marine mammals, birds, amphibians and invertebrates—with computational modelling. He develops quantitative sound-analysis methods, anatomical models of the non-human primate vocal tract, and eco-acoustic tools for monitoring wild populations.
Recent publications highlight vocal plasticity in indris, cross-disciplinary conservation strategies for Chinese colobines, and community-driven forest education projects in Madagascar. The work integrates behavioural ecology, conservation biology and citizen-science approaches.
Scientific awards: none explicitly listed.
Marco leads or participates in the research groups “Applied Animal and Human Ethology”, “Evolution of Communication” and “Primate Evolution, Biodiversity and Systematics”. He supervises doctoral students within the PhD programme “Biological Sciences and Applied Biotechnologies” and is active on departmental teaching and research committees.
