Professor Paul Lewis holds a joint Chair in the School of Management and School of Medicine at Swansea University. He is Director of the Centre for Health and Environmental Management Research and Innovation (CHEMRI) and leads the Respiratory Diagnostics Group. His research focuses on environmental data modeling, air quality monitoring, and optical diagnostics for respiratory diseases. He collaborates with Welsh health boards and industry to address particulate pollution impacts, securing over £6 million in grants. Lewis is a member of Welsh Government clean air advisory panels and has led clinical trials, filing three patents and founding spin-off companies in diagnostics and environmental analytics.
Education: PhD and first degree in Genetics. Previously a lecturer at Cardiff University.
Research Interests: Environmental health impacts, pollutant modeling, big data analytics, optical technologies, respiratory disease management. Recent work includes studies on lung cancer biomarkers, air pollution exposure in youth, and antimicrobial peptide cytotoxicity.
Grants & Impact: Over £6M external funding. Patents and spin-offs in diagnostics and air quality. Collaborations with Swansea Bay UHB, Cwm Taf UHB, and Cardiff and Vale UHB.
