He holds a PhD in Spanish and Portuguese from the University of New Mexico (2000) and a BA in Hispanic Studies from Connecticut College (1994). His research focuses on Mexican and Brazilian literature, migration narratives, globalization, and narco-literature. Goldberg pioneered integrating web-based video conferencing into language courses, connecting Widener students with peers in Latin America and Spain.
Key research interests include 19th- and 20th-century narrative works, diasporic Jewish literature in Andean countries, and contemporary discourses on migration. His publications analyze drug trafficking's cultural representation, ecological themes in narconovelas, and globalization's impact on transnational identity. He received the 2011 Excellence in Teaching Award from the College of Arts and Sciences.
Goldberg teaches all levels of Spanish language, literature, and culture. His work bridges historical memory studies with modern socio-political issues, often examining how literature reflects societal fractures and cultural hybridity. He maintains active affiliations with the Spanish (BA) and Art & Music (BA) programs at Widener.
