Paul Kindermann is a PhD researcher at the European Institute of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), working at the intersection of empirical political science and normative political theory. His doctoral research investigates the role of participatory and deliberative innovations like citizens' assemblies in EU institutions, combining qualitative methods (elite interviews, focus groups), mixed-methods analysis, and democratic theory. He is funded by an LSE Studentship, UACES scholarship, and Otto-Brenner-Foundation grant.
Paul holds an MA in Political Theory and an MA in Philosophy from Goethe University Frankfurt, along with a BA in Philosophy and Political Science from the University of Hamburg. His academic supervisors include Professor Jonathan White at LSE. He teaches seminars for the course GV251: Government, Politics and Public Policy in the European Union at LSE's Department of Government, and has taught in Frankfurt and Hamburg. He also serves as a mentor at the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation.
His research focuses on democratic institutions in Europe, EU integration challenges, and the sociopolitical implications of direct citizen engagement. He has conducted fieldwork in Germany, Ireland, Italy, and France, and will be a Visiting Fellow at Princeton University's Department of Politics in Spring/Winter 2025. His key expertise includes empirical democratic theory, EU institutions, and political participation frameworks.
