Dr. Michael Roseneck is an Associate Professor at the Chair of Political Theory and Public Policy at the Institute of Political Science and a Research Assistant at the Chair of Practical Philosophy II at the Philosophical Seminar of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. He also holds research affiliations with the Goethe University Frankfurt. His academic journey includes a PhD in Philosophy from Mainz (2020), an MA in Empirical Democracy Research (2014-2016), and advanced studies in Philosophy of Religion (2017-2019). He has been a fellow of the Gutenberg Academy and has held multiple research positions since 2014.
His research focuses on political philosophy and moral theory, particularly exploring the role of religion in post-secular society, deliberative politics, and justice theories. Key themes include religious reasons in democratic deliberation, the normative dimensions of political economy, and linguistic action theories. His work bridges philosophy with practical political theory, addressing contemporary challenges in pluralistic democracies.
Recent publications include monographs on religion’s role in public reason and contributions to journals like Religions and Sambhāṣaṇ. His upcoming projects include a manuscript on belief, normativity, and society, and collaborative works on Rawls and modernity. He regularly presents at international conferences, focusing on discourse ethics, secularism, and the integration of religious arguments in public discourse.
Roseneck teaches courses on political theory, deliberative democracy, and philosophy of religion at multiple universities, including Mainz, Frankfurt, and Darmstadt. His academic service includes roles in academic advising and editorial work on volumes like the Rawls-Handbuch.
