Paul Jones is an Associate Professor at the University of Saskatchewan's School of Environment and Sustainability, and a member of the Toxicology Centre. He holds a PhD in Biochemistry and a BSc (Honours) in Zoology from the University of Otago, New Zealand. His research focuses on analytical and environmental chemistry, aquatic and wildlife toxicology, ecological risk assessment, and the impacts of human activities on northern Canadian ecosystems and subsistence food resources.
Key research areas include fate and effects of trace substances in ecosystems, biomonitoring of pollutants, and assessment of contaminants in aquatic and terrestrial environments. His work integrates traditional scientific methods with Indigenous knowledge to address cumulative environmental stressors. He has contributed to studies on oil sands process-affected water, polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), and brominated flame retardants.
Dr. Jones has published extensively on topics such as chemical exposure in fish, ecotoxicological effects of pollutants, and wastewater-based epidemiology. His research has been applied to environmental policy, risk assessment, and community-led monitoring initiatives in northern Canada.
