Dr Paul Howard is a Lecturer in the Department of Management at Griffith Business School, Griffith University. He is a member of the Griffith Asia Institute and has held roles including Program Director for the Bachelor of Asian Studies. His research focuses on policy and development in Asia, particularly the political economy of sanitation in Cambodia and India, labor migration dynamics in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, and China's climate change policies. He has contributed to analyses of India's G20 presidency and the implications for the Global South.
Howard holds a PhD in Asian and International Studies from Griffith University. His work combines political economy perspectives with empirical studies on topics like remittances' developmental impacts, cross-border labor flows, and tourism-driven growth in ethnic regions. He has published widely on sanitation infrastructure gaps, civil society roles in development, and China's evolving environmental diplomacy.
Teaching responsibilities include advising multiple interdisciplinary programs and lecturing on Asian Studies. His research frequently intersects with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly addressing inequalities (SDG 10), climate action (SDG 13), and economic growth (SDG 8).
