Paul Govind is a Lecturer at Macquarie Law School's Centre for Environmental Law (CEL), specializing in environmental and climate law. He holds a BA/LLB (Hons) from Macquarie University and an LLM from the University of Sydney, focusing on distributive justice and climate change adaptation funding. His research explores intersections between value change in the Anthropocene, climate adaptation strategies, extinction, and legal responsibility frameworks. He teaches courses including Environmental Planning Law, Climate Law, and supervises advanced legal research projects.
Research interests span legal frameworks for indigenous participation in climate policy, biodiversity conservation through nature-based solutions, and ethical responsibilities in environmental governance. He has led projects like 'Developing a legal framework for participation of indigenous people and protection of indigenous knowledge relevant to climate change' (2009–2010).
His recent publications address decolonizing environmental law, urban green infrastructure, and biodiversity financing. He actively contributes to academic peer review (e.g., Australian Year Book of International Law) and participates in conferences on sustainability law in the Asia-Pacific region.
Govind collaborates with interdisciplinary centers like the Smart Green Cities Research Centre and Housing and Urban Research Centre, advancing research on climate-resilient urban development and environmental justice.
