Donna Houston is a Professor at Macquarie University's School of Communication, Society and Culture and Deputy Director of Urban Policy and Planning at the Centre for Housing and Urban Research. Her research bridges urban studies, environmental justice, and cultural geography, focusing on climate-affected communities, multispecies cities, and extinction geographies. She co-leads the Shadow Places Network, an international collaboration reimagining climate connections through art and scholarship.
Current projects include ARC-funded initiatives on urban wetlands, rewilding, and visual cultures of extinction. She has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications, emphasizing creative methods like storytelling and participatory photography. Awards include the 2023 Faculty of Arts Teaching Excellence Award and 2024 Vice-Chancellor's Teaching Excellence Award.
