Fiona Miller is an Associate Professor at Macquarie University's School of Communication, Society and Culture, affiliated with the Housing and Urban Research Centre. Her research focuses on climate change adaptation, social vulnerability, and resilience, particularly in the Asia Pacific region. She teaches in development studies, social impact assessment, and human geography. Previously, she held roles at the University of Melbourne, Stockholm Environment Institute, and University of Sydney.
Education: PhD from the University of Sydney (2003) on 'Society-Water Relations in the Mekong Delta,' and BA (Hons) from the same institution (1993).
Research Interests: Climate justice, flood recovery, climate-related displacement, and society-water relations. Current projects include studies on community experiences of floods, climate-related displacement in the Asia Pacific, and collaborative water-place research in Wiradjuri Country.
Teaching: Convenes units like 'Climate Change and Society' and previously led the Social Impact Assessment program. Current supervision includes PhD candidates Mominyar Khalid Butt and Tshering O'Gorman, and MRes student Hanan Alolabe.
Awards: 2024 EMPA Award for Emergency Communication Research and 2023 Faculty of Arts Engagement Award, recognizing contributions to flood response studies.
Labs/Teams: Deputy Director (Outreach) at the Housing and Urban Research Centre, founding member of the Shadow Places Network (reimagining climate-place connections).
