Paul Ferguson is a Lecturer at Cumbria University, based in Carlisle. He holds a PhD in Literature from Lancaster University (2009) and previously taught at Lancaster before joining Cumbria in 2011. His research focuses on humanity’s relationship with the environment, particularly through ecocritical and postcolonial lenses, examining representations of Cumbria and the Lake District in contemporary culture. Recent work explores 'global weirding' and climate change narratives in Cumbrian contexts.
He teaches on modules related to Romanticism and the English Lake District, reflecting his interdisciplinary interests. Qualifications include a PhD in Literature, MA in Contemporary Literary Studies, and BA in English Literature. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and a member of ASLE (Association for the Study of Literature and Environment).
His research interests span ecocriticism, postcolonial theory, post-humanism, and climate fiction (Cli-Fi). Recent publications include analyses of cultural dissonance in the Lake District (2023) and cannibalism in literary works (2015). He has also served as a Visiting Lecturer at the Scottish Universities’ Summer School (2016).
